Fusion LX
AY-PE worked with Army Flying Museum to transform a little-used space into an enthralling, multi-layered digital exploration of the Apache helicopter.
A full AV exhibition service was deployed including experience design, gallery look and feel, graphic panel design and AV hardware, as well as software creation for two touchscreen interactives, live filming, edits and virtual reality.
Interactive Explorer & Projection
Operating via UI designed with an engineering feel in mind, the 32” touchscreen table allows the visitor to explore carefully curated categories and subsections of statistics, film clips, interviews and oral testimonies – covering the technical, strategic and operational abilities of the Apache helicopter. The media content for the chosen topic projects onto a bespoke, 4 x 2 metre curved surface to immerse the visitor in their chosen information.
Meet the Crew Interactive
AY-PE designed a twist on telling the personal stories of those who flew and worked with Apaches. The idea was to have the visitor choose from multiple questions and have a life-sized pilot or member of ground crew talk to them, as if they were in the room together – highly memorable and engaging. This relatable interaction was made possible through AY-PE’s on-location filming and recording services, as well as the creation of an easy-to-use interface. Welcoming screen savers, touch areas designed specifically for low height access, subtitles, personal headset audio and simplicity of operation all combine to focus the visitor’s attention on the very person ‘who was there’.
Exhibition Design
Having collaborated with Army Flying Museum on a previous project, in the Apache exhibition they allowed our creativity to flow out from our AV designs and across the space itself. Knowing that AV works best in a darker room, we were drawn to the potential to use an Apache blue-print style two-tone dark wall graphic around the room, interspersed with powerful light box imagery and of course, the moving AV. Designing the look, brand and graphics of the room, we also worked alongside Fusion LX, Paula Atkinson Design, Conservation Plus and Workhaus to deliver the hardware, lighting, 3D design, overall PM and build for the AV experience.
