AV DESIGN FOR THE ICONIC RACETRACK
A brand new museum opened by Sir Lewis Hamilton and Prince Harry to much acclaim, AY-PE's digital production helped co-deliver the Silverstone Museum -a stunning multimedia driven, motorsports museum.
Creating the Silverstone Museum in a converted WWII hangar next to the world famous racetrack, AY-PE worked with Silverstone Heritage and exhibition designer Mather & Co to deliver vast galleries containing 86 interactive displays, digital experiences and inspirational multimedia.

INSPIRATIONAL AV
Telling compelling stories of human endeavour, great sporting rivalries and engineering innovation, AY-PE filmed and created AVs with the many legends who have created, supported or raced over the last century.
Creatively developing displays to awe and educate in history, sports and STEM subjects, we worked across multiple areas of production, designing interactive and multimedia displays which transport the visitor into the lesser known, more surprising parts of Silverstone’s history, and into the passion of racing itself.
STARTING GRID
A 12 metre, two- walled, multi-projector immersive experience sweeping the visitor into a life-size starting grid which speeds past them - showing newly filmed footage and CGI of starting grids across 10 classic motorsports eras.
This immersive digital experience is accompanied by an enthralling bespoke music composition reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac’s iconic F1 related ‘The Chain’ yet developed to capture the spirit, life and passion of motorsports over the decades and soak the visitor in excitement and passion for the museum.
UNIQUE INTERACTIVES
14 different bespoke types of interactive style, replicated across dozens of topic areas and touch screens, tables and walls. Interactives ranged from small digital labels and touchscreen hot-spot/ object explainers to hybrid-manual challenges, swipeable comic books and interactive camera floor gesture-tech projections. Software design incorporated prototyping, testing/ evaluation, 3D modelling, bespoke interface development and more.
EXPERTS & LEGENDS
Expert interviews and edits shown small to largescale across screens, wall projections and Pepper’s Ghost 'holograms', including:
-
Motorbike & car engineering principles
-
Race strategy
-
Marshalling
-
Legendary bikes, cars and drivers (Sir Jackie Stewart & Rob Collard 'holograms')
Incorporating AY-PE pre-production, scripting / interviews of experts, cinematography, sound engineering, post-editing and more.
MODERN CLASSIC
AY-PE graded, edited, graphic designed, animated and sequenced an array of films and montages across the exhibition. Working sensitively with Silverstone, BRDC and other motorsport archives, footage and stills the films intrigue and immerse audiences. Displayed from small screen to hangar-wide.
MOTION
Working with the exhibition style, the characterful nature of motorsports and an adventurous sense of STEM/ engineering, AY-PE produced animations and illustration for films, graphic treatments, touch screen interactives and gesture technology.
SOUND
AY-PE created and balanced a multitude of soundscapes, bespoke composition, ambient sounds and SFX across the experience - evoking the passion, atmosphere and variety of life behind this diverse motorsport centre.
AUDIENCE REVIEW,
TRIPADVISOR
Lots of interactive exhibits. Starts amazingly when you are on the grid and continues all the way around. Will definitely be returning.
HEAD OF EXHIBITIONS,
Silverstone Museum
The team constantly delivered in what was a challenging schedule and ambitious content (that was far from straight forward). An immersive and inclusive delivery that has provided access to a sport that can often feel distant from the fans.
