We produced a dual large screen immersive experience of the Titanic ‘Launch’  using illustration, animation and a multi-speaker dynamic sound- scape. Illustrator David Rooney was commissioned to produce all of the illustrations which were composited by AY-PE into 3D environments.

Layering individual illustrations of trams, people, buildings, RMS Titanic and more we were able to move a virtual camera through the illustrated scene creating the illusion of a ‘living environment’. As the crowds build a tram passes by delivering more spectators. Steelworkers hammer at the props holding the Titanic in place, removing them ready for launch. 

The scene was split into its various elements and animated – the hand pushing the lever & the dial spinning as pressure is released. The Titanic slides down the slipway away from the throngs of spectators. The AV depicts the exact duration of the launch from the release to the time it took to float – 62 seconds!
